• Week 2
  Write a letter to the council to explain your ideas for using the waste ground. You will need to persuade them that the park will be well used, by many different types of people, so use your information from last week to help you. Try to think of as many reasons as possible why the waste ground should be made more attractive. (From Liz Charlton's resource)

  Checklist: here's a reminder of what the BEST persuasive letters include.
• Used an introduction which states my opinion & says CLEARLY what I am writing about.
• Set out my main ideas clearly, linking them with connecting words or phrases?
• Have I used phrases that show my opinion? I feel that… In my opinion… I am sure that, I believe, It is certain… Surely
• Does my work end with a strong conclusion paragraph that sums up my main points and restates my opinion?
• Written in paragraphs that state a reason or opinion which is then followed by evidence to support it?
• Used powerful adjectives, adverbs and verbs, e.g. superb, excellent, magnificent, worthwhile, fabulous, cost-efficient, useful, inclusive, extremely, definitely
• Written mainly in the present tense
• Used conditionals; would, could, might, if, unless,
• Asked the reader questions, encouraging them to think Wouldn't you like an exciting community space which all the community have a chance to use?
• Used connectives: Firstly, In addition, Also, Furthermore, Moreover, In conclusion, Finally, Consequently, For this reason.
